Wall Street project to begin Oct. 19
About four months after it's anticipated beginning, the Wall Street resurfacing project is scheduled to begin later this month.
Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner announced during Tuesday's Fort Scott City Commission Meeting that the resurfacing of Wall Street is scheduled to begin Oct. 19. The project, which will include a two-inch milling of the asphalt on Wall Street from Scott Avenue to Steen Street and subsequent overlay of fresh asphalt, was scheduled to begin at the beginning of July but has been delayed because of funding issues and weather delays.
The city received approval in late July regarding the loan from the state which is being used to pay the city's share of the milling and overlaying of Wall Street, Turner said. The city requested the loan and has been having trouble getting a response.
The project was further delayed because of repairs being made to a storm sewer on the south side of Wall Street between Margrave and Barbee streets. Though the project was planned to be done before the resurfacing, Turner said weather significantly slowed the project's completion.
The Pittsburg-based Heckert Construction Company, Inc., has been selected to perform the work.
