Fort Scott JV boys place at LCHS meet
ALTAMONT, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity boys cross country team finished fourth at the season-opening Labette County Invitational here Thursday morning.
The boys' varsity team ran 5 kilometers and entered three athletes. The other races were over 3,200 meters.
Fort Scott's Robert Sellers was the individual winner of the boys' JV race, finishing in 16:09.34. Trevor Johnson of Southeast-Cherokee was second in 16:13.32.
Anthony Sercer placed 16th for the Tigers in 17:40. Kyle Altic was 28th in 18:48. Colton Ballou placed 35th in 19:26 with Austin Sather right behind in 36th in 19:29. Alex Ho was 46th in 21:35. There were 54 runners in the race.
Southeast won the team title with 56 points followed by Caney Valley with 61, Labette County 77 and Fort Scott 84. Seven team scored points in the race.
In varsity boys' competition, Logan Fancher placed 22nd for the Tigers followed by Keenan Gregory in 27th and Charlie Sercer in 32nd. Times were not provided by the LCHS meet officials.
Jake Spence of Baxter Springs was the individual champion with Austin Bogina of Northeast-Arma in second. Bogina is the son of FSHS head coach Tracey Bogina.
Mogran Tourtillott finished 18th in the girls' varsity race with a time of 18:56.25. Jenna Harper finished 21st in 19:46. Julia Stafford of Independence won the race in 16:22.
For the JV girls, Leah Cassleman was 18th in 20:19, Megan Midkiff 23rd in 21:45, Autumn Owenby 32nd in 23:28 and Hannah Fredericksen 37th in 26:58.
Fort Scott hosts its annual meet at 4 p.m. Thursday. The race will take place on the grounds behind the Cigna Insurance building on South Horton St.
