The Garland-based gospel music group The Cherry Jammers will perform Friday at the Heritage Park Pavilion.

Sponsored by Cherry Grove Baptist Church, located eight miles south of Fort Scott on U.S. Highway 69, the Cherry Jammers are a popular local attraction, according to a statement from the group.

The group primarily performs traditional gospel hymns and has been well received during the annual Good Ol' Days festival and other area venues. With church music rapidly changing and evolving, the group tries to focus on the gospel standards of old, the statement said.

The Cherry Jammers have a reputation locally for performing a country church style of music and song. With keyboard, mandolin, violins, guitars, autoharp and various rhythm instruments, a wide variety of music is made possible. Familiar vocal offerings include a number of solos and blended harmonies that always involve the audience, the statement from the group said.

The performance is part of the Friday night summer concert series that is sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division and continues through September. The concert is free of charge and open to the public. Attendees should remember to bring their own lawn chairs as seating is not provided at the event.

The show will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Park Pavilion near the corner of First and Main streets.
