LARRY JOE CLEMENTS, SR.
Larry Joe Clements, Sr. age 67, a resident of rural Fort Scott, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 18, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1942, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Guy Allen and Doris Alene Johnson Clements.
He graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1960.
He married Diane Elaine Lang on March 4, 1961. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1995.
He later married Darlene Reisinger on October 14, 1995. She survives of the home.
Larry Joe retired from Topco & Buell Cabinet Company as plant manager in the 1980's. He had also been employed in his earlier years at Whiteside's Grocery, RC Bottling, E.B. Little Used Cars, and Clements' Auto Salvage. In his retirement, he raised cattle and did custom hay bailing as well as working part-time at Bowman's 66.
In earlier years, he enjoyed playing pitch, raising game chickens, and racing stock cars with his brothers, his son, Bub, and his dad.
Later in life, he participated in the Fort Scott Garden Tractor Pulling Association, even serving as President for one term.
In his most recent days he enjoyed time spent with his grandkids, fishing and working with his sister, Joyce at Tink's Bait Shop.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of the home; daughters, Donna Jo "D. J." and her husband, David Beerbower and Debbie Clements all of Fort Scott and his daughter-in-law, Kenna Clements of Deerfield. His grandchildren whom he adopted, Amanda Clements, Jerry Clements, and ShayLynn Clements, all of Fort Scott. His grandchildren whom he was "Papaw" to Sarah Jo Pollock, Jennifer Hull, Katie Jo Hull, Brooke Clements and Jacob Clements; and a great-granddaughter, JoDee Lynn Pollock. As well as Darlene's children, Belinda and Duke Ogan and Tim Post and Jennifer Hoeven, all of the Kansas City area as well as grandchildren Jessica and Ben Ogan, Amanda and Austin Post and Christopher Williams.
Also surviving are his sister, Joyce and her husband, Jim Young, and brothers, Gary "Bud" and wife, Randia Clements, Jerry and wife, Linda Clements, all of Fort Scott. Terry Clements and wife, Jane, Galena, Kan., and Robbie Clements, and wife, Mary Jo, Willard, Mo., and sisters-in-law, Cindy Clements, Fort Scott, Linda Smith and husband, Bill, Twain Harte, Calif., and Nancy Lindell and husband, Francis, Pleasanton, Kan.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fishermen.
He was greeted in Heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ along with his grandparents, his parents, an infant brother, Timothy, his wife, Dee, his son, Larry Joe "Bub", Jr., who passed away Aug. 31, 2008, and his brother Darrell who passed away in March of 2007.
Pastor Tim O'Neal will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.
Following funeral services, there will be cremation. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
