Charles George Vincent
Charles George Vincent, 74, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1934, in Vernon County, Mo., to Arthur Vincent and Pearl Waltz Vincent. He married Ovida Jadlot on May 11, 1957, in Springfield, Mo., and she survives of Nevada.
Charles was born and raised in Vernon County and spent most all of his life here. He served as a Master Drill Sergeant in the United States Army, stationed primarily in Germany. Following his time in the service, he returned to Vernon County and made his living as a truck driver and farmer. He raised and raced quarter horses for many years. He had a very wide circle of friends and acquaintances of whom he was most generous.
Survivors in addition to his wife Ovida include one son, Ronald Vincent and his wife Julie, Nevada; one daughter, Linda Harreld and her husband Billy, Nevada; five grandchildren, Stephanie Otter and her husband Cory, Deerfield, Mo., Aaron Lofquest, Nevada, Clayton Harreld, Nevada, Brooklynn and Kaitlynn Vincent, Nevada; two great-grandsons, Braxton Otter and Brady Otter, Deerfield, Mo.; one brother, Joe Vincent and his wife Shirley, Nevada; friend and business partner, Marilyn Gannaway, Nevada, and caregiver, Val Smith, Nevada. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Marissa Harreld.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, June 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Vernon County Youth Fair in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
