Evening tour at FSNHS set for Saturday
The Fort Scott National Historic Site will be hosting an evening tour beginning at 7 p.m. June 20. The tour is titled "For What it's Worth" and will explore 19th century land and property issues.
FSNHS Ranger Galen Ewing said the one-hour tour will consist of four different scenes with each focusing on land and property issues during a specific time between the mid-1840s and mid 1870s. One scene will focus on issues during the opening of the west, the second will focus on issues during Bleeding Kansas, the third will focus on issues during the Civil War, and the final scene will focus on issues during the railroad years. Ewing added he plans to also talk about how land issues and disputes tie into the gold rush.
"All of them are related to property issues in way or another," Ewing said.
Ewing said he hopes to attract more than just travelers to Fort Scott, he hopes visitors from Fort Scott and the surrounding areas will attend the tour.
"It is an evening program that we want to offer to the public," Ewing said. "This offers another interpretive activity ... to take in and take advantage of."
FSNHS will host another evening tour on July 3. No details are available yet, however it has been determined that the tour will focus on the Civil War.
There is no charge for the tour, but those who plan to attend are requested to sign up in advance by calling (620) 223-0310.
