Hand sanitizer in place at courthouse

The Bourbon County Commissioners approved the installation of hand sanitizing dispensers outside all public restrooms in the Bourbon County Courthouse.

The dispensers are being installed as a precaution to the spread of viruses, particularly the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus, upon the suggestion of Bourbon County Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers.

"This is one more step to ensure people keep their hands clean and to prevent disease," Jeffers said.

David Neville, custodial supervisor, approached the commission for permission to make the purchase. He said the dispensers were free if the product was purchased from the same company.

According to Neville, the county will be purchasing 12 800-milliliter containers and will be receiving eight dispensers. The dispensers will be installed on the wall outside the door of each public restroom in the courthouse.

Jeffers said he has had a bottle of hand sanitizer in his office for individuals to use and that he has not seen many individuals show signs of illness.

"Everybody seems to be pretty healthy," Jeffers said.
