Rain fails to prevent poker run from helping local Red Cross
The first ever Ride for the Red Poker Run, conducted by the American Red Cross was deemed a success by the event organizer.
According to the Bourbon County Chapter of the American Red Cross Executive Director Whendi Martin, 26 motorcycles carrying almost 40 riders came out on Sunday to participate in the Red Cross fundraiser.
In spite of the rainy weather that poured down on the riders toward the end of the ride, the poker run helped raise $500 to be used in the local area through the course of the year, Martin said.
Martin said the last stop on the poker run was supposed to be Gunn Park, but in order to get the riders out of the rain, the stop was made at the Red Cross office instead. After the ride was over, winners were announced and prizes were given out.
According to Martin, David Harper, Bronson, was the main event winner, taking home $150 and two Royals tickets with a parking pass.
Martin said the event would not have been such a success if it were not for the help of the many volunteers who give freely of their time to help.
"I look forward to it (event) being bigger and better next year," Martin said.
