Fort Scott High School's softball team finally got to play at home for the first time this season, producing a 7-0 victory over Parsons in the first half of a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader at Don Hewett Field Tuesday evening.

The first game was stopped early as the field became slicker. The second game was postponed.

The Tigers (7-0 SEK, 8-1 overall) had tried to play at home five times previously this season but it had rained either the night before or the day of the games each time.

Sammi Newton drove in the Tigers' first two runs as Jamie Collins and Morgan Tourtillott scored on a hit. Fort Scott added five more runs in the second inning.

"Our bats went quiet in the last three innings," Fort Scott head coach Alvin Metcalf said. "I thought we were trying too hard to get hits."

Newton, Collins and Erin Coffman each drove in two runs. Collins and Jade Weeter had two hits apiece.

Erica Davis spun her third consecutive one-hitter. She walked two batters and struck out 14. She has struck out 10 or more in every game this season and has 127 K's in 62 innings.

Parsons fell to 0-7, 1-8.

The Tigers are scheduled to play at home Thursday and Friday, weather permitting. Columbus is scheduled to come in this afternoon while Coffeyville visits Friday. Both SEK doubleheaders are set for 4:30 p.m. starts at Don Hewett Field.
