EL DORADO -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team advanced to the elimination round of the Region VI Tournament as a result of sweeping Butler, 10-4 and 13-0, in a best-of-three series here Monday.

Fort Scott was the No. 5 seed out of the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division. It's the second time in three seasons that the Greyhounds (27-25) won a first-round series on the road. Two years ago, they rallied after losing the first game of the series to win the next two at Colby.

This will be the third straight season the 'Hounds have made it to the elimination round at Wichita. Last season, they defeated Dodge City at home to get to Wichita.

Fort Scott trailed game one going into the top of the ninth inning, 4-3, before the 'Hounds scored seven times. That made Trace Green (5-0) the winning pitcher. He allowed one hit and no walks in three innings of relief, striking out three.

Jason Houston went four for five at the plate, driving in two runs. Kian Jost went three for five and scored twice. Tyler Zimmerman also drove in two runs.

Sean Felt (5-1) went the distance in the second game, which was called after six innings. He allowed three hits and four walks while striking out five.

Fort Scott scored three runs in the second inning to take the initial lead and rolled from there. Six runs went up in the fifth inning.

John Leek was three for four at the plate while Zach Higgins went three for three. Jost, Houston and Cody Barnes had two hits each.

Zimmerman, Barnes and Adam Johnston each hit home runs.

Fort Scott's next opponent is Eastern Division champion Cowley. They will face each other at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
