Senior Swingers honor dancers celebrating 52nd wedding anniversary

Thursday, May 7, 2009

It was a nice evening, no rain and the attendance was about up to par at the senior dance at Buck Run Community Center Monday night.

Lucille was on the job at 5 p.m. and I made the coffee and she got the other things going. It takes a little while to get the tables ready after they are set up and to get the water fountain going with ice and all and the refrigerators empty and ready for the food that is brought in for the evening snack. It is nice to know that we have the plates, napkins, forks, spoons and cups for coffee and water all ready for use.

Corey had rewaxed the floor this week with three coats of new wax and it was really shining and in very good shape. Thanks, boys.

We called Zelda and Wes Coleman to the center stage at 7 p.m. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary May 4. Alva McNeely sang the Anniversary Song to them. Pictures were taken and we gave them a hand of welcome as they danced.

Get well cards were signed for Liz Parks and Bob Hull who are home not doing so well with their aches and pains.

Sylvia Shepherd is back doing some dancing but not too well. She says she might have more surgery later, but for now she is just coasting.

When asked for birthdays this week, Sheryl Reynolds from Chanute said she will celebrate her birthday Thursday. We gave her a hand of welcome.

We had several first timers to our dance Monday night. Inez Proper, Chanute; Neil Hartwig, Humboldt; Geri Myers, Iola; Lloyd Specht from Piqua; Kay Van Dorn and Kenneth Banta from Lamar, Mo. They all seemed to enjoy our music and danced quite a bit. We hope they will come again.

There will be a dance at Cadmus Friday night.

The Marmaton Valley Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers will be at their meeting place at the Senior Center on North Main Street Sunday afternoon.

The two young children that play the violin and has been at our meetings before will be back again Sunday afternoon. They won a first place at the state convention last month.

We still didn't get any report on the John Gaddys from Pittsburg. They weren't able to be out last week.

The report on George Davenport isn't the best but we hope he will be able to handle what ever is given him. We will remember them all in our prayers.
