Three Greyhounds receive honors

ARKANSAS CITY -- The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference recently announced its All-Conference basketball teams. Three players from Fort Scott Community College received honors.

Sophomore Leondra-Doomes Stephens was named to the Women's Eastern Division First Team and as the division's Most Valuable Player. She was the leading scorer in the entire conference -- Eastern and Western divisions included -- with an average of 21.6 points per game. She was also second in steals with an average of 3.7 per game, 10th in rebounding with an average of 8.2 and 10th in blocked shots with an average of just over one per game.

Freshman Valencia Kelly was the conference's second-leading scorer at 16.9 points per game, which helped her land a spot on the Honorable Mention list.

Freshman Darrell Blanton was named to the men's Honorable Mention list. He was sixth in the conference in scoring with 18.2 points per game. Blanton also shot 56 percent from the field, which was 10th in the conference, and averaged 7.5 rebounds, which was also 10th.

The women's team finished this season with a 15-16 record while the men were 11-20.


Players were nominated by their coaches and then voted on by opposing coaches, who did not vote for their own players.
