FSCC livestock students win Market Hog Class at Sioux Empire

Sioux Falls, SD -- Fort Scott Community College's Livestock Judging Coach, James Thompson and his team attended the Sioux Empire Farm Show Wednesday, Jan. 28. Thompson wanted his team to compete in showing animals that they raised.
The team showed four barrows that were fed in FSCC's newly acquired show barn. The team members also had the opportunity to learn more about properly feeding and showing hogs. This was important for the FSCC Livestock Judging team because their degrees of experience vary throughout the team, according to Thompson.
At the show, Nathaniel McGee was named the Reserved Champion Senior Showman. All of FSCC's hogs placed in the top ten of their respective classes. One barrow received a first place finish in its class and another barrow placed third in his class.
Livestock Coach James Thompson said he was pleased with FSCC's showing.
"This is something FSCC will continue in the future with multiple species," he said. "We are planning on attending many more shows in the upcoming year. I really think the competitive atmosphere of the show ring is directly correlated with success in Livestock Judging at FSCC."
FSCC's Livestock Judging Team members are: Matt Horne, Nathaniel McGee, Kyle Jacobs, Stephen Vaughan and John Lakey.
