Dancers get back in the 'swing' of things
It was a wonderful winter evening for our Monday night dance at Buck Run Community Center. We had to cancel the dance last week on account of the ice and snow. It just wasn't fit for any body to get out of the house. We had a good attendance and good music.
Ethel McCormick was back and dancing from Nevada. She had been grounded for quite sometime.
We had a sympathy card out for everyone to sign for Pauline Davidson. She lost her sister this past week.
Joe Chalker from Moran was back and dancing. He had a knee replacement in November. He said it was doing fine. He celebrated his birthday Jan. 18. We celebrated the January birthdays a couple weeks ago so we gave him a hearty birthday welcome.
There will be a Valentine dance at Libeal Feb. 14. Our Senior Swingers will play. They get their supper at 4:30 and the dancers will eat at 6 p.m. The cost is $9 for the dinner and dance. It will be held at the High School Gym and is a very good floor. We played for them two years ago.
Jim Smith informed me Saturday that there will be a band concert at the Liberty Theater on Valentine's day night. A good band and singers from Kansas City will preform. Our senior citizens are invited to come free for any seat in the balcony. We have done that before and theevening is very good. I will announce it again next Monday night. Jim said he might sing a song or two. He is a good singer. He sang with Mailyn May when she was here last time.
The Marmaton Valley Fiddlers, Pickers and singers will meet next Sunday at the senior citizen building on North Main Street. They start their playing at 1 p.m. but have a Jam session at 12:30. Everyone is invited to come and play or just come and listen to the music.
There will be a dance at Cadmus Friday Night.
Our attendnce is doing better. Some of the dances around are cancelling out. Our group just seem to like the get togethers and dance. It is a free dance. We put out the "coffee" can the first Monday night each month for the rent of the building for the month and that is it. We like it free that way so anyone can come and just sit, listen and enjoy the music. We have had a plenty each month to pay for the rent each evening and buy a few supplies. Most of the time people will bring cups, plates or napkins and coffee is furnished most of the time. Sugar and cream is purchased.
Everyone seemed to be glad to get back in the swing of things. With the cancellation and the staying in for two days sure does get to a person fast. Just hope for a better night again next week.
