Contemplating Christmas
Students from Bright Beginnings Preschool presented the school's annual Christmas program Friday at the City/County Community Center, and the children sang proudly under the direction of Tracy Sewell, as they await the Big Day -- Christmas.
Christmas is coming, and all of the children reported they've been good -- at least good enough for Santa to visit. In the program, children sang "Jingle Bells," "Little Children," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
Each shared some of his or her thoughts on Christmas.
Maci Barton, 4, knows that Santa lives at the North Pole, where it's much colder than it is here. There's snow there, but none at her house right now. Maci has been a little naughty, she confessed, but still good enough to expect a visit from Santa.
Cole Burch, 4, said that Santa brings presents in his bag. Cole has been good, and he's sure Santa knows that. He doesn't know how Santa knows, but he knows. Cole's sister also has been good. Santa lives at the North Pole and is staying at his house, getting ready for Christmas. He doesn't use his reindeer all the time -- just for Christmas -- so when you see Santa before Christmas, you don't see the reindeer. He has never seen a reindeer or Santa, but the reindeer fly and Santa wears boots, a white and red hat and red pants.
Cailyn Hollands, 4, says Santa gives her toys every year. She saw Santa once at a store, and she loves him because he brings toys to little kids. Cailyn has been good, and so have her brother and sister, even though her sister's not grown up yet -- she's still a baby. Cailyn's grandma also has presents under the tree. Santa's reindeer fly, but she hasn't seen them. "You can't get out of bed when it's Christmas Eve," Cailyn said.
Bryanna Smith, 5, has been good, and she hopes for a stuffed cat and dog for Christmas, even though she already has a real dog. She saw Santa once, and he has gotten her toys before. She said Santa is at his house, making toys. "He can't be sleepin.' He's gotta be working on all those toys, and the elves are, too." she said. She loves the "big program" the preschool presents. On Christmas Eve, Santa's reindeer fly. She hasn't seen any reindeer in real life, but she's seen Rudolph on television.
Garrett Culbertson, 4, said that Santa is at Santa's house. He's not sure where the North Pole is, but he's been "very good." He's never seen Santa, but Santa puts his toys in a bag and brings them, with the help of his reindeer that fly and are very big. Santa is busy now, getting the toys ready. Garrett's brother and sister also have been good, and he's very excited.
Quade Hays would be happy with any one of several toys he's seen for Christmas, and he's mostly been good, and his brother's been good enough for Santa to come. He has seen Santa before. Santa uses a sleigh with reindeer, and will have to take a nap to get ready for Christmas. Quade loves Christmas movies and is looking forward to Christmas, but you need to sleep when Santa comes.
Caleb Stanley, 5, says there are lots of fun things about Christmas. He likes the presents best, and wants to give Santa a present, too. He plans to leave cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve.
Santa uses a sleigh and reindeer that fly. He's never seen one of Santa's reindeer, but he's seen other reindeer in "the big World Book." Those reindeer don't fly, though -- only Santa's reindeer can do that. He's never seen Santa, because he has to go to bed before Santa comes. Santa is watching us at the North Pole to make sure we are being good, and Caleb has been good.
Zade Lee, 3, has seen Santa before. Santa lives at the North Pole, where it is cold. He's busy there, making the toys. Santa's reindeer fly, and he thinks he might have seen them before also. Zade has been very, very good, and so have his mom, dad, and brothers. He thinks everything about Christmas is fun, and he plans to spend it with his family, he said with a big smile.
Breauna Nance, 4, has seen Santa. Her sister didn't want to sit on Santa's lap, but Breauna did, so Santa knows she's been good and knows what to bring.
Sometimes, she admits, she can be mean to her sister, but they've both been good enough to suit Santa. Santa brings the toys in a sleigh with reindeer that fly, but people don't get to see the reindeer, just Santa. Her favorite thing about Christmas is seeing her family and friends -- and, of course, toys.
