Ideal Chapter 369 O.E.S. meets, members receive pins

Ideal Chapter 369 OES met Nov. 13 with Beverly Davis and Charles Gift presiding in the East as worthy matron and worthy patron. The worthy matron thanked everyone for coming, in her welcome.

Plans were finalized for the Masonic luncheon that the Eastern Star ladies would be serving on Saturday, Nov. 15. Gayla Croan thanked the ladies for the pies brought for refreshments. The treasurer's report was given by Margaret McDermed. Four bills had been signed by the finance committee and were ordered paid.

Invitations were received from Olive Chapter 13 for the official visit of the Worthy Grand Matron Karen J. Adams and Worthy Grand Patron David L. Rake on Nov. 18; Electa Chapter 23 for their Friendship meeting on Nov. 24; Sunflower Chapter 147 for the official visit of the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron on Nov. 25; Kent Chapter 117 on Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. for presentation of 50 year pins and to Gladiola Chapter 459 for the official visit of the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron on Dec. 5. Three grand officers have replied about their invitations to the Dec. 11 meeting when Ideal Chapter will entertain the worthy grand matron and worthy grand patron and 50 year pins will be presented to Kelly Arnold, Viola Harts, Audry Huning, and Dean and Effie Mitchell.

A carry-in-dinner will be served at the Hiattville United Methodist Church at 5:45. There will be an open meeting at 7 p.m. at the Masonic Hall with the closed meeting to convene at 7:30. All area chapters are invited to attend. There will be refreshments following the meeting.

There will be a cleaning day on Wednesday, Dec. 10. All help will be greatly appreciated.

During the Sunshine Report, McDermed reported she had sent no cards since the last meeting. It was reported that Oda Keeney had suffered a bad fall at her home.

Charles Gift thanked the Chapter and members for all the calls, prayers, and cards he had received while recuperating from his surgery.

John Coyan, Beverly Davis, Effie Mitchell, Clara Brewer and Ron and Shirley Palmer attended the reception at the Masonic Home for the General Grand Chapter Committee members, Nov. 8. Palmer was one of the honorees. Effie Mitchell reported on this meeting. The worthy matron expressed her pleasure in having so many officers in attendance, and also stated how glad the Chapter was to have their worthy patron able to attend.

Dean and Effie Mitchell gave an anniversary offering, and Mae Ellen Gift gave a birthday offering. Charles Gift had these word of wisdom to share, "Ploughing looks easy when you are pushing a pencil and 100 miles from the cornfield."

Refreshments of various kinds of pie and ice cream were served following the meeting. The group enjoyed playing Bingo for "white elephant" gifts brought by those attending.

Worship assignments for the month of November at the Hiattville United Methodist Church are: Greeters, Monte and Sherril Fall; Ushers, Judy Tripp and Ken Keeney, and Liturgists, Jamie Collins, Cassie Schwalm and Katelyn Vincent.

Pastor Akins sermon for Nov. 16 was titled "Mustard Seeds." Each person received a book mark with a mustard seed on it as they entered the church. Special music was given by the Harmony Sunday School Class, singing "Over the Meadows and Through the Woods" accompanied by Mattie Nell Dixon on the piano.

Following the worship service annual church conference was held with Rev. Ron King, District Superintendent of the Five Rivers District presiding. Yearly reports were made by various committee chairpersons and the annual budget for 2009 was accepted.

The Hiattville Church has a membership of 72 as of this date. There was a loss of 2 members by death in 2008.

Bible Study is held on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. The topic for this week will be Extravagant Generosity.

Fort Scott Community Thanksgiving Service will be Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at the first Baptist Church.

The Hiattville 4-H Club will host a community Christmas Caroling Party at the Hiattville Fire Station on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
