Mercy set to host 'Girls Night Out' at Fort Cinema
The fourth and final 2008 Spirit of Women event, sponsored by Mercy Health Center, is slated for Monday, Nov. 10, at the Fort Cinema in Fort Scott. The theme of the event is "Girls Night Out" and combines free movies, health screenings, drawings and a holiday gift display by Mercy Health Center Auxiliary.
As with past Spirit of Women events, the goal is to encourage women to adopt a proactive attitude about their health and the health of their families. At this event, in addition to the choice of three free movies, women will also be able to participate in free blood pressure checks, BMI screenings and a breast cancer awareness assessment.
There will be two; free showings of three different movies with the first show beginning at 4 p.m. and the doors will open at 3 p.m. The second show will begin at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 6 p.m. Women will be able to choose between three movies at each showing -- Mama Mia, Shall We Dance or Thelma and Louise.
"We are looking forward to a fun evening of girlfriends getting together to enjoy a movie while providing them with important health information and free screenings," said Carla Bryant Farmer, Spirit of Women liaison. "We all understand that it is that our network of family and friends that inspires us to live fuller lives.
"Built around the concept of sisterhood, the Spirit of Women initiative offers an educational platform which allows women to celebrate and support each other."
Tickets are free but required for the event and may be picked up at the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce, Mercy Health Center Registration Desk or Health For Life, located on the lower level of Mercy. Tickets are limited to two per individual.
