Community Sing has good turnout

The Coffee House for God fundraiser will be taking place Saturday, Nov. 8, begining at 5 p.m., in the old Community Building in Arcadia on the corner of Race and Main Streets, south of Arcadia City Park. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, chips, cake and drinks will be served at the event. There will be a raffle and drawing that evening for two sets of jewelry.

Lou and Betty Dehn recently traveled through Yellowstone National Park and were pleased to see Old Faithful erupt. The couple said they enjoyed the beautiful drive and the small town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

On a recent Monday, Tom Watt, Lees Summit, Mo., arrived at his Mother's home, in rural Arcadia at supper time and stayed overnight. He left early on Tuesday morning for Tulsa where he played in a golf tournament with over 100 players. On Wedensday, he attended a business meeting and Thursday he returned home.

At another gathering of the Watt brothers, this time with their wives, Delton Jr. and Billi, Bill and Karen and Tom and Phyllis met in Kansas City for dinner and enjoyed a Tina Turner show in the new Sprint Center.

JOY Sunday School Class met on Monday evening with 13 present for a dinner and business meeting, with president Patty Peterson presiding. Special guests that evening were the neighbors to the bungalow, Kristen, Ian Mongahan; children, Marissa and Michal; and their neighborhood girls Cheyenne Mellon and Josie Bryant. Also present were Mae Watt, Vera and John Parrish, Mary V. Shead, Wayne Parrish and David Peterson, who gave the blessing.

The special monetary gift from the Class this month went to LATM, one of the churches regular missionary projects. It will help buy the Noah's Ark Children's Color Books that are printed in foreign language. Correspondence was received in the form of thank you cards from the Jack Davidson and Jessi Dice families and Jace, Jesse and Hazel Pavlik families.

Vera Parrish read titles of Hymns for various people in keeping with their names or occupation.

The President gave important thoughts namely, Abraham was the Father of multitudes. God opened bodies of waters three times, the Jordan River twice and Red Sea once. She closed with "Before Honor is Humility."

The next meeting will be October 20, at 6 p.m. in Christian Church bungalow.

In the Arcadia Christian Church on the prayer list Sunday, October 5 were Charles Cable, Yvonne Esquerio and Bill Skidmore. Two of the birthdays listed were Josie Bryant, 8 year old and Peterson's sister, Danielle Peterson.

A monthly prayer meeting group was started on Wednesday, October 1 with the following present: David Peterson as leader, Wayne and Christie Parrish, Patty and Gary Peterson, Betty Dehn, Mary Shead and Mae Watt. The next meeting will be November 5.

More than 400 post cards were signed by church members and sent to Arcadia residents inviting them to church services.

Peterson's sermon was taken from Luke 2 concerning the Holy Spirit was received by the 12 Apostles 50 Days after Pentecost. God give us his Holy Spirit so we can be His witness. It give us a reason for our hope in Jesus.

The monthly dinner was held following the services with 16 present including special guests Bob Prettyman, rural Arcadia and Mark and Janet Parrish from St. Paul, Kan.

Peterson brought to everyone in attendance's attention, that the Charter that hangs in the church, records our church name as First Church of Christ of Arcadia. Those in attendance these days were unaware of this fact.

A group of 35 or more met at the Community Sing on Saturday evening October 4. It was the first anniversary of this gathering and Bonnie Hines as MC presented many awards to various individuals who have been faithful this past year to play, sing, work, set up, award prizes, etc. Gene Stephens and his wife are on record as attending all twelve meetings this past year.

At this meeting, Mae Watt's name was drawn for the "basket of books" prize. She in turn gave it to Bonnie Hines to show appreciation for all of her good works.

Area residents are asked to remember:

Kids Night, October 18, which will feature a wiener roast and Hay ride.

On October 22, voting ahead of time from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

On October 25, Our Gang.

October 28, Cato school meeting.

All of these events will take place at the Arcadia Community Center.

Janice Mayfield, office manager of Arma Care Center has announced someone from the center will come regularly to the Autumn Leaves senior center in Arcadia to do blood pressure readings for members and anyone who would like to have the readings taken. The doors open at 11 a.m. each meeting day. This month it will be on October 20. Generally the meeting date is the second Monday of the month. Guests are invited to stay for dinner.
