On Friday, July 18, during the Kid's night in the Arcadia Community Center, 24 attended the wiener roast. Special guests were Bob Grant, Kansas Representative and his lovely wife, Lynn Grant.
Nearly 50 descendants of the Collie and Ollie Eggen family met recently, at the Lamplighter Inn in Pittsburg, for a three Day Reunion. California, Texas, Utah, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas were represented. This reunion is held every two years in different locations. Two years ago in Utah and before that in Colorado, Arkansas, New Mexico and Missouri. The next reunion will be in Oklahoma.
Much of the time was spent viewing local sites, playing golf, swimming, visiting each other and just catching up on the past two years happenings. Friday evening food was catered from Chicken Mary's.
Saturday evening was pizza night, with Greg Dunn entertaining with piano, guitar and singing. Hardy Dunn gave a brief history of his and wife Jessie's early years together. This was a great three days and enjoyed by all.
Monday Morning, Ernestine Berkey took her Granddaughters, Kristen and Bethany Redd to Joplin, shopping and eating lunch at Olive Garden. That evening Angela Redd joined the others for supper at Pizza Hut in Pittsburg.
Saturday evening, July 12, Larry and Mary V. Shead attended the 90th birthday party for Peachy Bedene, held in St. Joseph Catholic Church Hall in Arma, Kan. It was estimated that 500 attended this catered dinner party given by her children, Becky Bualle, Brent, Bruce and Barry Bedene. Peachy and Mary V. attended 12 years together in Arcadia Public Schools and graduated from AHS in 1936. Another 12 classmate at the party was Raymond Grace and his friend, Jackie Cato both from Carthage, Mo.
Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens met in their Cottage on Monday, July 14, 2008, with 11 present to enjoy Fried Chicken, Lasagna, new potatoes and green beans from the garden of Jerry Coonrod. Coming home from the wild blackberry patch with plenty of berries, his wife, Lilly, made a cobbler for the occasion. Other desserts were Cherry pie and Dirt Pudding served with Ice Cream. Business meeting was conducted by president Lilly Coornod followed by Flag Pledges and Lord's Prayer.
Readings were given by Patty Peterson, Carole Garrison, Mary Lee and Jack Payne and Mary V. Shead. Each won a prize at Bingo games. Others present for the dinner were Helen Sisney, Bob Cavin and special guests, Jessie and Hardy Dunn from Wichita. A packet of old time pictures was viewed and given to those who desired them.
If this sounds like a fun time and good eating to those of you who admit to being a Senior Citizen, come to the Cottage, August 11. Door opens at 11 a.m. Carry-in Dinner is served at noon. Everyone is welcome.
Larry and Vickie Shead had her cousins, two young ladies, Mariah and Micaela Murphy, fifth and sixth graders as house guests this past week while the parents went to N.Y. to visit their son, Toby Murphy, who is in violin music camp. He has attended this for several summers. The girls enjoyed attending the Farm Show south of Pittsburg, where they met up with neighbor, Raymond Kalm. They peeled many apples that were made into applesauce, rode the pony and enjoyed the other animals. The family returned to their home in Webb City, Mo., on Saturday.
David Peterson, Pastor based his sermon on John 13:1-20 On Sunday morning, July 20. His title was Exemplary Servant, referring to Jesus himself. He illustrated with a row of dominoes. He held a 3 p.m. service that afternoon in Arma Care Center.
