Ron and Shirley Palmer attended the Symphony on the Flint Hills near Council Grove, on Saturday, June 14. Prior to the evenings activities, they were special guests of State Representative Tom Moxley and his wife at noon in Council Grove. They attended a barbeque, hosted by the Kansas Livestock Association and toured the Moxley Ranch. In the afternoon, they attended a special legislative reception at the lake cabin home of John and Michelle Peterson, near Council Grove.
Tuesday evening, June 17, Palmer attended the 100th birthday and 50 year pin presentation at Swan Chapter, OES in La Cygene.
Lela Simpson was the guest speaker at Hiattville U.M.C., on June 29. Her sermon was titled "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe." Scripture was read from Genesis 22:1-14 and Romans 6:12-23, 7:21-25.
Birthday offerings were made by Gavin Fry, Mabel Miller and Lloyd Callow.
Harold Simpson, husband of Lela, was a welcome visitor. Lorna Slater was in charge of the children's time and the children sang a song they had learned in the recent bible school time.
Ideal Chapter 369, O.E.S. met June 26, with Beverly Davis and Charles Gift presiding in the East as Worthy Maron and Worthy Patron. This will be the last meeting of the chapter until September 11. The Degress of the Order were exemplified with Agnes Armstrong acting candidate.
The treasure's report was made by Margaret McDermed. She also reported that she had send a get well card to Lynda Foster and that John Coyan had had a farm accident and had a badly cut finger.
The Chapter received an invitation to attend the 90th birthday party for Dorothy Ketner on July 19, at the Fort Scott Inn.
Lynda Foster thanked everyone for the calls, cards and prayers she had received.
The Worothy Matron wished everyone a good summer and thanked those that changed offices during the meeting. A special thanks was given to Dorothy Ketner for filling the office of Associate Matron.
Margaret McDermed and Mattie Nell Dixon had jokes to share with the members. Lynda Foster and Agnes Armstrong volunteered to be the "Jokesters" at the September meeting.
Delicious refreshments of rasberry sherbert, angel food cake, cheese and crackers, nuts and mints were enjoyed at the close of the meeting, compliments of Agnes Armstrong.
Palmer participated in the Southeast Kansas Legislative Wrap Up Forum at Chanute recently.
There were many family get togethers over the July 4 holiday.
Dean and Effie Mitchell enjoyed having Rod McGinnis and his wife, of Waverly, and their friend Tim, stay at their home Thursday night and Friday. All attended the rodeo at Hepler, Rod and Time worked the rodeo as pick-up men.
Beverly Davis enjoyed having out of state visitors from Arizona and Indiana, the evening of the Fourth. Local family members joined them for dinner and fireworks.
Barry, Laura and Peyton Vogelbacher spent the holidays at the home of Charles and Paula Brewer.
Ed McDaniel and his wife were in Illinois recently to attend the wedding of one of Ed's nephews.
Lynda Foster is home recovering from her recent surgery at Mercy Health Center.
Hiattville United Methodist Church was happy to welcome the new pastor, Mary Akin, Sunday, July 6. Her sermon was titled "Blindfolded". Scripture was read from 2 Corinthians 5:14-17 and Samuel 15:34-16:13.
McKensie Collins was a welcome visitor. Birthday offerings were made by Ronnette Vincent and Melinda Collins.
Cindy Schwalm presented a "welcome" basket of goodies to Pastor Mary on behalf of the congregation.
Ronnie Brown, Chairperson of the Administrative board announced a board meeting for July 20, immediately following Sunday School.
Worship assistants for the month of July are: Liturgist, Glenda Miller; Greeters, Ronnie and Beverly Brown; and Ushers Jamie Collins and Katelyn Vincent.
Baling hay and combining seems to be the order of the day for farmers. Youth are getting geared up for the Fair. It is a busy time for everyone.
