Dinner guests enjoy jewelry party

The Community Sing that was held on Saturday evening, June 12 was well attended and had a very interesting program for the audience. Former Pastors of Arcadia Christian Church, Willa and Charles Cable, were among the performers that night. Folks who would like to be on the programs in the future are welcome to join the group on June 28, when the practice is held at 6:30 p.m., in the Arcadia Community Center.

July 22, the CATO Committee will be meeting in the Arcadia Community Center. Again tickets are being sold for the future drawing for another quilt made by Sue James in Texas but formerly from this area.

Sunday morning, workers were busy getting the street light back in working order near the Community building on Race Street.

Dorothy Ketner formerly of Garland but now living in Fort Scott is celebrating her 90th birthday at the Fort Scott Inn on July 19, from l to 3 p.m. Congratulations!

Dinner guests of Lou and Betty Dehn on Sunday, July 13, were Lorene Gibson, Carole Garrison, Mae Watt and M. V. Shead.

The ladies stayed that afternoon for a jewelry party and were joined by several other ladies who enjoyed modeling different types of necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, etc. Refreshments were served at the close of the party .

Joel Ray, his wife, and Cademon of Tulsa, Okla., spent July 4th weekend in Texas with his parents, Pastor Tom and Cathy Ray, Joel's sister, Aimee Ray, was honored with a graduation party on Saturday evening. The Rays while in Texas visited both of Joel's grandparents, including Phyllis Devereaux, C. Ray and his wife .

Jack and Harriett Corporon of Brooklyn, N.Y., joined their son, John Corporon, his wife and children on Saltaire Fire Island, July 4 and will remain until July 30. John and family will return to their home in Stamford, Conneticut after a shorter time there. During July, the other son, David and Yvette Corporon with Christiana and Nicholas will join the family for a week of vacation. This is a yearly adventure for the Corporons.

Arcadians were sorry to hear of the death of Ruth Naomi Fowler, age 82. She attended the Arcadia Elementary School but the family moved away before her class graduated in 1943. Naomi had been living in the Arma Care Center for several years and enjoyed meeting old time Arcadia friends. Each Sunday she would attend the Bible Study held weekly in the Center. Her parents were John N. and Henrietta (Garton) Fowler.

The Oversight Team of Arcadia Christian Church had a Telaconference from the office of LATM in Joplin last week. Ralph Shead, Pastor David Peterson conferred by phone with Emory Briggs in Nowata, Okla., and selected a new Church Board from volunteers at last week's meeting. The new members are John and Vera Parrish, Gary and Patty Peterson, Wayne and Christie Parrish and Pastor David Peterson. They plan to have monthly board meetings.

On July 13, young people in the youth class were Courtney and Danielle Allen, Angela Casey, Stephanie Lechliten and Courtney Hencey taught by Betty Dehn.

Recent birthday songs have been dedicated to Linda Watt, July 4; Tom R. Watt Jr, July 11 and Jonathan Watt, July 15 when Mae Watt gave their offerings.

Tom and Phyllis Watt, Lee Summit, attended a fancy food show in New York. It was a 4-day event with over 2,500 booths representing 77 different Countries. Tom is Executive Vice President of Retail Services Inc. (RST). His office is in Overland Park, Kan.

The couple, while back East, rode AM Track from New York to New London, Conn., to visit Tom's daughter, Julie Watt and Crystell Pewtherer. These two young ladies recently moved from their residences into a home of their own.
