Faith Heaton of Holly Springs, N.C., recently spent some time in the area visiting with friends.
John Slater took four 4-H kids to Lawrence June 8, to a sheep show.
Ann Ludlum accompanied 12 4-Hers to Manhattan, last week, for Discovery Days.
Visitors at church, June 9, were Shayma and Alyssa Meisenheimer, Emma Vender, The Kevin Davis family, Austin, Christopher, and Aubrey. Emma Vender gave her birthday offering, she was one years old. Pastor Andy's fiancee, Morgan Whitaker, was also a visitor at worship. This was Pastor Andy's last Sunday at our church. The young couple will be wed June 14, at St. Paul's Chapel. They will be serving churches at McLouth and Winchester next year.
Lester Waring and his wife, of Garland, were Sunday afternoon callers at the Dean Mitchell home.
Kevin Davis and family of Scott City, spent Saturday night with Beverly Davis. Sunday Gary and Lynda Foster, Adam Foster and his friend joined them fro lunch at Chicken Annie's.
The Hiattville unit of United Methodist Women met June 9, at the church with Beverly Davis presiding. The meeting opened by all repeating the Purpose. Roll call was answered by eight members telling about their favorite vacation. Mabel Miller gave the Treasurer's report. The unit will pay half of the expenses for Kaitlyn Vincent and Jamie Collins to go to the Institute.
Lorna Slater based her devotions on the Chapter 17 of Matthew, verse 27. The group talked about how people often question why bad things happen to them or their loved ones but how God has promised to be there to held us through the problems or crisis.
Clara Brewer gave a report from the Prayer Calendar about mission work in North Carolina and asked the group to keep the missionaries that are working in the Philipines in their prayers this summer.
Dora Page presented excerpts from the Response Magazine about the Public Education Mission Study.
Dora Page was the lesson leader, the lesson was entitled "For The Love of Children" and focused on our support of public schools. Everyone present helped present the lesson. The worship center featured a candle, open bible, and various school supplies. It was decided that before school starts in August, we would bring school supplies for Clara Brewer to take to the Beacon.
Plans were completed for the Father's Day cookies and for June 21, when the Unit will host the District Officers as they meet in executive session.
The until will not meet during July and August. The next meeting will be Septmeber 8. There were many listed for Prayer concerns. The meeting closed with the Lords Prayer. Mrs. Davis served refreshments of orange cake, cheese, crackers and coffee.
Lorna Slater and Beverly Davis attended their Garden Club meeting, June 10, at the Heritage Park.
Ideal Chapter 369 O.E.S. met June 12, with Beverly Davis and Charles Gift presiding in the East, as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.
The Worthy Matron welcomed the members with a very thought provoking essay on "Today".
A special welcome was given to Shirley Palmer, General Grand Chapter Committee member and Grand Trustee of Kansas and Beverly Davis, Co-Chairman of the Necrology Committee of Kansas Grand Chapter.
Invitiations were received from Olive Chapter 13, for June 17, Fidelity Chapter 38, June 20, Violet Chapter 200 for June 25, and Morion Chapter 167 for June 25.
The Treasurer's report was given by Margaret McDermed.
Reports were given on members that are ill, including Lynda Foster and Karen Coyan.
The three fathers that were present were presented and introduced. They were Charles Gift, Dean Mitchell and John Coyan. The Worthy Matron asked them to tell something about their own father and to tell what their first words were after they were told they were a father. The Worthy Matron told them a very clever story about God's creation of a dog, monkey, cow and man. The conductress passed treats to the fathers, compliments of the Worthy Matron.
Shirley Palmer reported on the visit to the Bronson Chapter for the official visit of the District Aide, Juanita Phillips.
The Worthy Patron left us with these words of wisdom, "Fathers carry pictures where their minds use to be".
Mattie Nell Dixon and Agnes Armstron shared jokes with the group.
The next meeting will be June 26. Practice initiation is planned. Beverly Davis seved delicious refreshments of fruit gelatin, topped with cool whip, cheese and crackers.
