100 YEARS AGO
(1908)
Twelve employees of the Fort Scott Post Office will have their salaries increased beginning July 1st. The increases are generally at the rate of $100 per year. The 12 include six of the rural mail carriers out of the city, who will hereafter get $83.33 per month. The list of those who will be benefited by the increase, which was announced from Washington, is as follows: A.W. Snyder, J.W. Dawn and A.B. Calame were brought up from the $800 to the $900 rate. Miss Jessie Stevens and Fred Bakeman will hereafter draw $1,000 a year instead of $900. Thomas J. Feist enters the $1,100 scale from the $1,000 mark. James C Hunsicker and E.J. Hamilton are $800 men, remaining at that rate because of their juniority.
This afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. L.A. Griffith, 604 South Clark Street, Prof. Victor G. Kreyer, the well known orchestra leader, bandmaster and composer, will be united in holy marriage to Miss Bertha Griffith, sister of Robert Griffith, the well known electrician.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wallen, 818 Heylman, had the unique honor of having three sons obtain graduation diplomas at the same time when schools closed here last month. Their son James was promoted from the grade school to junior high; their son Robert went from junior high to senior high; and Raymond graduated from the senior high school.
A gathering of former students of Ed Blair, former Fort Scott resident and father of Streeter Blair, will be held Sunday at Cadmus, Kas., to honor Mr. Blair, who is a veteran teacher. Mr. Blair at one time was a clothing merchant in Fort Scott. Employed 50 years ago this summer by the Cadmus school board as the teacher, Mr. Blair had 60 students under him, all studying and reciting in one room. There are 29 still living, and at least 25 are expected to attend the all-day meeting and picnic dinner. Mr. Blair is again located at Cadmus.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen R. Maupin Jr., Stephanie and Penelope, 602 South Judson, spent Father's Day with his father, G.R. Maupin, Katy engineer, at Parsons.
Clarence Wolfe is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wolfe. He has been in the army one and one-half years. The soldier leaves June 30 for service in Japan.
A group of women and girls served lunch at the Saturday stock sale in Fort Scott. They represented the Good Luck 4-H Club. Two of the women, Mrs. Tim Murphy and Mrs. Julia Wunderly, said that they were charter members of Good Luck.
The Magee Riverside lambasted Central Gun Shop 18-2 to score an easy victory in the adult softball league at Othick Park The Riverside team made 18 runs, 16 hits and contributed no errors. Ralph Cox pitched for Riverside and had easy sailing. John Greenfield was behind the bat. Leroy Ruhl hit two home runs over the right field fence for the only runs scored by Central.

Cynthia Patterson, a sophomore from Fort Scott, has been named to the President's Honor Roll after earning a 4.00 grade point average for work done during the spring semester at Benedictine College, Atchison. Miss Patterson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Patterson.
Helen Townsend, a freshman from Fort Scott has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll for high academic achievement during he spring semester at Benedictine College, Atchison. Miss Townsend is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Townsend.
