Mother's Day church service, little faith, great faith

Friday, May 30, 2008

The JOY Sunday School class held its meeting on May 19, in the Christian Church bungalow for a carry- in dinner followed by the business meeting conducted by President Patty Peterson. A sympathy card was signed for the family of Edna Lundberg whose burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott on May 20. She was a lifetime member of the Acadia Christian Church and graduate of Arcadia High School with the Class of 1929.

The Secretary, Vera Parish read the brief history of the Class for the 52 years it has been in existence. Pastor David Peterson told of his trip the past week when he traveled to Pearlington, Mississippi where he surveyed the effects of Hurricane Katrina. He was quite interested in knowing of the good works done by I.D.E.S., a Christian organization, that goes to these distressed areas. He saw 27 new homes they had built. Before returning home, he visited his sister, Danielle Peterson in Charleston, South Carolina. As part of our missions giving, the Class voted to give monetary aid to the grandchild of Rae Ann Rose who is in a Texas Hospital. The little church birthday bank was opened and as other Church Missions giving was sent to LATM, Learning and Teaching Ministry. Vera Parish read some humorous poems and quotations. President closed with this quotation, "Most people wish to serve God -- but only in an advisory capacity." From 1 Peter 5:6 she quoted "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." Others present were John Parish, Wayne Parish, Mae Watt, Betty Dehn, and Mary V. Shead. June 16 will be the next dinner meeting.

We extend our Sympathy to the family of Reba Wyatt Carpenter, 85, of Joplin, MO. who died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Joplin Health Care Center. She was a member of the Arcadia High School Class of l940. Her funeral was on Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Joplin with burial in Ozark Memorial Park.

On Mothers Day Sunday, Larry and Vickie Shead attended with his Mother, Mary V. Shead in Arcadia Christian Church, for the Sunday School Hour taught by Gary Peterson. Joined by other family members for the worship hour where Mark Shead assisted as Pianist. All enjoyed the Mother's Day dinner held that afternoon at the Shead farm. Relatives and friends were at the large dining table to honor the six mothers present who were each given a yellow rose.

Guests were Mary V. Shead, Mae Watt, Ralph and Cindy Shead, Ashley and Matthew Shead, Mark, Haley and Katy Shead, Maria Shead and her guest Danielle Cournia, Mitzi and Joel Ray and Cademon, and Pastor David Peterson. As he left the farm, he headed for Arma where he conducted services in the care center as he does every other Sunday. In closing his sermon that Sunday morning, Pastor Peterson told all, "Little Faith will take you to heaven. Great Faith will bring heaven to you".
