WICHITA -- Uniontown's Drew Johnson won two events at the K.T. Woodman Relays hosted by Wichita State University here Friday.

Johnson was a winner in the Class 2-1A division in long jump at 19 feet even and high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches. He also took third in the triple jump at 38' 7 1/4".

Zach Mason took second in two events, running the 300-meter hurdles in 43.53 seconds and finishing behind ahead of Johnson in triple jump at 38' 9 1/2".

It was a long day for Uniontown's competitors, according to head coach Jackie Hall. The Eagles left for Wichita at 4:30 in the morning with the first events taking place at 8:15 a.m. The triple jump was the last event, taking place at around 8:30 p.m.

"But it was worth the wait," Hall said. "Considering the weather conditions -- which weren't as bad as last year. It was a very long, cold, windy day."

Abbie Smith was injured during the 100-meter hurdles, according to hall, and had to scratch from the 300 hurdles, 200-meter dash and long jump. It's not known for certain when she will be able to come back.

Medals were awarded to the top six in individual events and the top three in relays. Uniontown had five other medalists and had a fifth-place finish in a relay, which would win a medal at other meets since six places are usually awarded in all events.

Jamie Shelton was third in two boys' events. He threw the javelin 164' 7" and cleared 5' 8" in high jump.

Ben Dixon had a pair of fourths. One was in the long jump, where he went 17' 9". The other was in the 400 meters as he ran a 24.5.

Katie Spainhoward won the only girls' medal, taking fourth in shot put with a mark of 32' 6 1/2".

Uniontown's boys' 4x100-meter relay team of Dixon, Ethan Hammond, Mason and Johnson finished fifth in 48.06 seconds.

The Eagles were scheduled to go to Burlington Monday to compete in Waverly's Gene Farrow Invitational. Results from that meet will be printed once they are received.

Next Monday, Uniontown hosts the 20th running of its home invitational.
