Samuel Thomas Gibson, age 86, resident of 420 S. Eddy, Fort Scott, Kansas, died Sat. April 12, 2008, at Mercy Health Center. He was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Deerfield, Mo., the son of Jasper William Gibson and Ida Lena Moore Gibson. He married Anna Sluder on Sept. 10, 1945, in Fort Scott. Sam was retired from the Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroads. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. While serving his country, he received three Bronze Stars, the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He also was a lifetime member of the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No.1165 V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife Anna, of the home; two daughters, Kim Brillhart, Fort Scott, and Julie Howard and husband John, Joplin, Mo. Also surviving is a brother, Carl Gibson, Nevada, Mo.; four grandchildren, Brooke Campbell and husband John, Kate Brillhart, Ashley Osborne and husband John, Samantha Freeland; and one great grandson, Ian Osborne. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett Gibson and Fred Gibson; and two sisters, one infant sister and Rosie McReynolds.

The Rev. Steve Bell and Rev. Don Payne will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Post No.1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
