Gift of love, friendship Ideal Chapter O.E.S. theme

I want to apologize to everyone whose name was misspelled in my last bunch of items, I promise I will try to do better.

Easter Sunday was a busy time for the Hiattville Methodist Church.

Cindy Schwalm was in charge of the early sunrise service. She had decorated the church using various sizes of crosses, also 2 beautiful lilies graced the Altar.

Ann Ludlum was in charge of the breakfast. The tables were arranged in the form of a cross and were decorated with flowers. Those present enjoyed a variety of breakfast casseroles, breads, juices, and coffee.

During worship time, Pastor Andy's sermon was titled, " The fulfillment of the Journey." Scripture was read from Acts 10:34-43 and John 20:1-18. Special music was by Jessica, Cassie, and Cindy Schwalm singing, "Behold the Savior of Mankind" accompanied by Ann Ludlum.

Ideal Chapter 369 met March 27 with Effie and Dean Mitchell presiding in the East as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.

Dwaine Geiger, Past Grand Patron was presented for introduction, welcomed, seated in the East and saluted with Grand Honors.

Other introductions were Charlotte Swaim, Grand Representative of Tennessee in Kansas, Edith Peterson, Grand Teller; and Sonny Peterson, Grand Guard; all members of the Olive Chapter 13. Mrs. Swaim and Mr Peterson are also Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Olive Chapter. Mrs. Michelle De Febaugh, a member of Olive Chapter and Mrs Beverly Geiger, wife of Dewaine, were given a special welcome.

Invitations received were to the Past District Aides spring luncheon at Electa Chapter on April 5 and to Morion Chapter on April 1 for the consolidation of Kincaid Chapter with Morion Chapter.

The Chapter voted again to help sponsor a band student with Violet Chapter and Olive Chapter.

The Sunshine report was given by Margaret McDermed.

Beverly Davis reported on Rob Morris installation where she had been installing secretary. Dewaine Geiger had helped to install officers at Evangeline Chapter at Baldwin City. The Worthy Matron thanked Beverly Geiger, Edith Peterson, and Doris Ericson for filling the stations of Marshall, Ruth and Electa for the meeting.

Chapter closed in form to prepare for open instillation.

Gayla Croan was chairman of the committee that decorated the East to honor the newly elected Worthy Matron and Worthy Patrons, Beverly Dacis and Charles Gift. The backdrop was red with white lattice panels on each side. Their names were in white and black accented with silver. The theme for the year was across the top, "The Gift of Love and Friendship."

Installing officers were, Dorothy Ketner, installing Matron; Dewaine Geiger, installing patron; Beverly Geiger, installing secretary; Charlotte Swaim, installing Marshall; Sonny Peterson, installing Chaplain; and Mattie Nell Dixon installing organist.

The following officers were present and regularly installed, Beverly Davis, Worthy Matron; Charles Gift, Worthy Patron; Gayla Croan, associate Matron; Dean Mitchell, Associate Patron; Clara Brewer, secretary; Margaret McDermed, Treasurer; Lynda Foster, Conductress; Agnes Armstrong, associate Conductress; John Coyan, Chaplain; Mattie Nell Dixon, organist; Jeannie Hart, Adah; Doris Ericson, Esther; Effie Mitchell, Martha; Mae Ellen Gift, Warder and Kirk Hart, Sentinel.

After Mrs. Davis and Mr. Gift had received the charge of their office at the Altar and were escorted to the East, they were honored with a vocal solo by Lynda Foster. She sang "And The Gift Goes On," accompanying herself on the guitar. this is Mrs.Davis' chosen song for the year.

The installation of other officers were installed in regular order.

After the Worthy Matron assumed her station, she instructed the Conductress to present Effie and Dean Mitchell to the East, where she and the Worthy Patron presented them with monetary gifts from the Chapter. They were congratulated for their work the past year as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron.

Gayla Croan presented Mrs. Davis with an Easter Star Bible, a gift from the Chapter.

The Worthy Matron expressed the appreciation to the installing officers and presented them with gifts. She also thanked her daughter Lynda for singing her chosen song.

In closing her remarks, she announced her committees and thanked the officers for accepting their respective stations. The Chapter will be celebrating its 95th birthday in May. It was noted that five years ago Mrs. Davis presided in the East when the 90th birthday was celebrated.

Responses were made by Effie Mitchell, Dorothy Ketner, Margaret McDermed, and Dewaine Geiger. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction.

Refreshments of sandwiches, cookies, chips, candy, nuts, and drinks were enjoyed following the meeting.

Chafftian Legett spent the weekend at the home of Lorna and John Slater and was a visitor at worship as was Harold Headrick, who is spending sometime at his farm home.

Pastor Andy's sermon was titled "It's OK To Be A Doubting Thomas." Scripture was read from 1 Peter 1:3-9 and John 20:19-31.

The Harmony class was in charge of serving "Cookie Time" after service.

The Financial Team will meet with the Pastor April 11 at 7 p.m.

The community potluck will be April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
