Last evening four men were having a hot time at one of the men's' livery barn, near the power house. They were making considerable noise and someone telephoned for the police. The police say the men resisted arrest. It became necessary for the chief to deputize a couple of bystanders to assist in taking the men to the calaboose.

75 YEARS AGO

(1933)

Martha Hessong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hessong, last night was adjudged the winner of the senior high piano contest held at the high school to send representatives to the interstate high school contest at Pittsburg. Myra Coffman won second. In the junior high contest Marilyn Konantz, daughter of Mr. and Mr. A.B. Konantz, was awarded first place. James Quy placed second.

For the second time this season a picked team of lady bowlers from the 6 o'clock league, defeated a selected team from the men's 8 o'clock league last night on the Y.M.C.A. alleys in a handicap contest. The margin was 76 pins. The ladies' team was composed of McWilliams, Sterling, Bohon, Tewell and Pavey. The men's team had Hill, Bishop, Reike, Hendricks and Hanes.

The Northeast Scott 4-H Club, with Miss Lucile Bell as leader, was declared winner of the fourth annual model meeting contest held last night in the auditorium of the junior high school. Three Bourbon County 4-H clubs, Northeast, Drywood and Fulton, matched their skills.

50 YEARS AGO

(1958)

The Credit Bureau of Fort Scott, a credit information firm, completed incorporation proceedings in the office of the secretary of state at Topeka today with a $10,000 authorized capitalization. Marvin L. Sudsberry is the resident agent.

Winners of the door prizes at Comstock's "Farmer Day" event were Mrs. L. Sauerwine, Devon, and Kenneth Rowley, Prescott.

Chlorine Rose, county extension office secretary, remained at her Hiattville home today to treat a flu condition.

Mrs. Perry Keeney, of near Pawnee Station, said a few days ago that she thinks this has been the worst spell of weather she has ever seen. She reports that caring for livestock on the farm has been very difficult on account of the mud. She reported that in some places about their barns and lots the mud has been over the tops of their four-buckle overshoes. Mrs. Keeney said she wrote a relative down in the Canal Zone recently and told him about the bad weather and that we had not seen the sun for so long we wondered what had become of it. The relative wrote back and said the sun was down there and he was sure of it for it had been shining every day.

The Uniontown United Methodist Church celebrated "Helen's Day" March 20 in honor of Helen Day, retiring organist. The occasion also marked Mrs. Day's 86th birthday.

As my office space has been sold, it is necessary that I close my practice. I wish to take this opportunity to thank my many friends and patients for their continued support over these many years. -- Dr. Harold Croan, Optometrist.
