Eagle girls second, boys third at Oswego
OSWEGO -- Uniontown's track teams opened their seasons here Tuesday with the girls' team finishing in second place while the boys placed third.
Eagle girls scored 94 points to place behind Wyandotte, Okla. The boys scored 102 points while Wyandotte was first and Quapaw, Okla., was second. Eight schools competed in the meet, including Altoona-Midway, Chetopa, Longton-Elk Valley and St. Paul.
Eagle girls had five event winners and 14 medals. Katie Spainhoward and Riley Stephens each won two events.
Spainhoward was the winner in discus with a throw of 93 feet, 3 inches and shot put with an effort of 31' 1 1/4". Stephens took the javelin at 85 feet even and triple jump at 28' 9".
Abbie Smith won one event and three medals. She won the long jump with a leap of 15' 6 1/2" and took second in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
Emily Aikins was third in long jump and fourth in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Marliss Allen was fourth in the 400 meters and fifth in the 100 and 200. Brooke Harper placed third in the 800 meters.
Uniontown's boys won six events and 15 medals. Zach Mason was a triple winner as he took the 110-meter hurdles in 16.32 seconds, the 300's in 44.96 and triple jump at 39' 1 3/4".
Ben Dixon won three medals, taking the 100 meters in 11.62 seconds, finishing third in the 200 and fifth in long jump.
Jamie Shelton was first in javelin at 141' 3" and third in the high jump.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Dixon, Ethan Hammond, Mason and Drew Johnson ran a 47.76 to round out the list of Uniontown victors.
Johnson was second in the high jump and the triple jump and third in long jump. Jonathan Hauenschild was fourth in the 3,200-meter run and sixth in the 1,600. Hammond finished sixth in the 200.
Uniontown was scheduled to go to the Frontenac Invitational today. If rain wipes that out, then the Eagles are not scheduled to take to the track again until April 11 when they go to the K.T. Woodman Relays hosted by Wichita State University.
