Kenneth Charles McCain, age 63, formerly of Fort Scott, passed away March 25, 2008 at his home in Fulshear, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Jonathan and wife, Kathy, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Julie, of Fulshear, Texas; adored grandson, Tristan; sister, Frances Typer, of Lawrence, Kansas; and mother-in-law Erma Clayton, of Fort Scott. He is also survived by countless friends-he never met a stranger.
Ken grew up in Fort Scott, Kansas and graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1962. From there he headed to K.U. in Lawrence, Kansas and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He worked in insurance for many years, but for the last 13 years, he served as Vice-President of Marketing at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy. He applied his creativity and intelligence in all he did. Both contributed to his success; both also entertained many. His zest for life and his sense of humor made him beloved to all.
In lieu of flowers, the family intends to accept donations to award a scholarship in the district where his daughter teaches, Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. Donations can be sent to the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, 2501 South Mason Rd, Katy, Texas 77450, with checks made out to Ken McCain Scholarship. Education was one of his true passions.
A private celebration is being planned for family and friends at his home, and graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31, at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas, with everyone meeting at the cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kansas, 66701. Expressions of sympathy may be emailed to the family at expressions@konantz-cheney.com.
