Thursday Nite Live FCE met recently at UMB Bank conference room for the monthly meeting. President Joyce Davenport conducted the meeting, Secretary Alice Helton read the minutes of the last meeting and Treasurer Teri Campbell reported the financial status of the unit. There were two guests attending Arlene Koester and Margaret Needham. They were given a friendly welcome and encouraged to attend again.
Judy Orton gave a report of the recent council meeting. The Spring Social will be held April 10. The location and time have now been set, Community Christian Church, use the east entrance at 6. The program will be the Fort Scott High School debate team. They will be going to national competition late this spring.
FCE Recognition Day is planned for May 7 at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. The speaker for the morning is Randy Roberts, and his topic is "Women of the Kansas Balkans." The afternoon event will be a "Fashion Fun Parade". Registration is due by April 10, contact Ann Ludlum for more information at (620) 223-3720.
Sally Brock will be the team captain for Thursday Nite Live for the Walk Kansas challenge, hoping to walk the entire 423 miles. She will turn in the records for miles walked, fruits and vegetables eaten for each team member. The FCE members will be participating in three different teams. The group voted to continue supporting the same events at the Bourbon County Fair as in the past with prize money. The fair will be the week of July 13, summer will certainly be here them.
The lesson included organizing your papers, how long and where to keep important papers. The safest place for documents that are difficult to replace is a bank safe deposit box. Shredding is an important practice; do not throw away papers with any personal information on it. There is one authorized website to obtain your own credit report annualcreditreport.com. Some Web sites advertise they are free but later may charge an annual fee. Information was given on how to opt out for the do not call registry, email opts and direct mail marketing. Also, a plan for home inventory, everyone should have pictures and a list of items in our homes and a copy kept in a safe deposit box. A website to help with the inventory is knowyourstuff.org.
Amanda Gilmore treated everyone to special refreshments as "Good News" was shared by contributing $l to the clubs fund. March 27 will be the next meeting at Irene Kennedy's home the lesson will be given by Sally Brock titled Kansans Move into Health.
