E.A. Kaufman, of East Third Street, who is down with the smallpox, was reported in a much improved condition today. The health officers think that they have the disease well in hand and do not anticipate any spread from this case.

Hiattville, the thrifty little village southwest of Fort Scott, has a newspaper all of its very on. Said newspaper, known as the Hiattville News, made its debut Saturday in a very successful manner. Danny Brown didn't care that it wasn't particularly pretty; he was just glad the thing went in the right column. "We played flat tonight," Brown conceded after his FSHS girls' basketball team escaped with a 41-39 Southeast Kansas League victory over cellar-dewlling Iola at the high school gym. Tiger senior Joy Vann finished with a game high 15 points. Contributing to the win were Lisa McKenney, Becky Hereford, Susan Allen and Lori Sherrell.

Minnie Lou Allen, a native of Mound City, has joined Stewart Realty as a sales associate. Mrs. Allen and husband Otis reside at Lake Fort Scott. She is secretary of the Bourbon County Arts Council and is an avid antique collector.
