Hiattville social life centers around church, worship

Visitors at Hiattville United Methodist Church on Feb. 3 were Jonathan Gauthier and Judy Tripp and great grandchildren, Makenzie, Nicholas and Austin. Pastor Andy Smith's sermon was titled "Listen to Him." Scripture was read from Exodus 24:12-18 and Matthew 17: 1-9. Joe Ludlum assisted the pastor in serving communion. The altar candles were lighted by Hannah and Gavin Fry.

Immediately following worship, the pastor presented information to the adult Sunday school classes about the new "Bridges to the Future" Capital Campaign that the United Methodist Church is launching to benefit Camp Chippewa, Campus Ministries and the building of new churches,

Worship assistants for the month of February are greeters, Melinda and Jamie Collins; ushers, Bill and Jennifer Sampson and Liturgist Beverly Davis.

On Saturday, Beverly Davis and Lynda Foster drove to Wellington to attend the funeral of a friend.

Beverly George of Fort Scott was a Sunday afternoon caller at the Elmer Miller home on Feb. 3. Laura and Payton Vogelbacher spent the weekend at the Charles Brewer home while Barry was at a National Guard meeting at Fort Riley.

Joe and Ann Ludlum were in Topeka visiting Joe's sister Clarie. They also drove to Lawrence and visited with Herman Werholtz on Feb. 2.

Charles and Paula Brewer hosted a birthday dinner Sunday Feb. 3 for their granddaughter Kayla's 20th birthday. Those present were three of Kayla's friends, her Aunt Laura and cousin Payton and great grandmother Clara Brewer.

The Bourbon County Cooperative Parish Council met at the Hiattville U.M.C. on Feb. 24. Beverly Davis and Lynda Foster were in Manhattan recently for two days. Lynda attended some meetings and Beverly shopped.

The Pastor Parish Relations committee and the Trustees Committee both met with Pastor Smith on Thursday evening Feb. 7.

Pastor Smith came from St. Paul's on Wednesday evening to conduct a very impressive candlelight Ash Wednesday service.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Maloney enjoyed having dinner together at Chicken Annie's at Girard on Feb. 8.

Sunday was U.M.W. Sunday at the church. The women of the church were in charge of the morning worship. Worship assistants were Beverly Davis, Liturgist; greeters, Lavone and Dora Page and Ushers, Judy Tripp and Lorna Slater. A skit was presented by Clara Brewer and Lorna Slater. The "Purpose" of United Methodist Woman was present by Beverly Davis.

Following morning worship and Sunday school classes, the over 70 dinner was held. Those over 70 enjoyed enjoying the lovely meal were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Callow, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell, Ken Keeney, Charles Gift, Beverly Davis, Dora Page, Lavone Page, Mattie Nell Dixon, Clara Brewer and Mable Miller. The tables were decorated with the Valentine theme. The meal was prepared by the younger women of the church. Those helping serve were Ronnette and Kaitlyn Vincent, Ann and Joe Ludlum, Hannah Fry and Lorna Slater. Pastor Smith gave the invocation. Before the meal, the group was entertained by Hannah Fry singing a cappella several selections.

Congratulations to the Hiattville 4-H members for all the awards won at the 4-H days held Feb. 9 at Uniontown.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell attended the birthday party for their great-grandson Ty at his parents home in Franklin Saturday evening.
