Werling recognizes FSHS debate team headed for national competition
The Fort Scott High School debate team was recognized by USD 234 Superintendent Rick Werling at the monthly USD 234 board meeting on Monday. The FSHS debate team had six members who qualified to move on to the national competition in Las Vegas, Nev. this summer.
Also, Monday, USD 234 Business Manager Alan Drake reviewed the recent audit by the Kansas State Department of Education regarding enrollment and it financial impact. In addition, he reviewed the third year of school finance plan for the upcoming 2008-09 school year. He also discussed the latest status of capital financing to generate funding for future projects.
Board members approved fundraising applications and the 2008-09 school calendar. In addition, the board reviewed the second semester enrollment count report and approved the following employment matters:
* The employment of Jessica French as a Eugene Ware paraeducator.
* The resignation of John Coyan's duties of custodian and bus maintenance.
* The employment of Ronette Center as a middle school gymnastics coach.
The board went into executive session to discuss matters relating to the security of the school buildings or facilities, preliminary discussion relating to the acquisition of real property and to discuss matters relating to employer-employee negotiations whether or not in consultation with the representative or representatives of the body or agency.
