Conductor J.F. Durbin, of the Frisco, is devoting much of his leisure moments at home showing his son Blaine's new diamond watch fob which came from the Chicago Ball Club. The medal is a beauty.

GARLAND NEWS LETTER: We have just experienced the biggest Christmas trade we ever had. We sold barrels of candy and everybody is now sweet in disposition. Some of the banks have failed but Bolyer's plan is still humming melodiously. If you are not already one of our patrons, come in quick! We have a few of our weather calendars left--just for the asking. Bring in your poultry and produce. We send greetings for your prosperity.--Bolyer Bros.

The 16 dog stake race slated to be held at the Files' pasture Jan. 2 has been called off, according to promoter Cecil Kern. The snow and extreme cold weather of the past 10 days have made it difficult to condition the dogs and it was thought best to postpone the affair to some later date when the weather will be more favorable.

Sixteen hundred happy boys and girls, who otherwise would have received no Christmas treats, were guests of the American Legion Saturday night at Memorial Hall for the annual Legion Christmas tree. Candy, nuts and toys donated by merchants were distributed to the children.

A great deal of salvage material is coming out of the old Goodlander Hotel. There are a few items that are being preserved and in years to come can be pointed to with the remark, "That came from the Old Goodlander Hotel that was built in Fort Scott in 1887." One of the items is the newel post that stood for 70 years at the foot of the hotel stairway in the lobby. This was acquired by G.W. Marble. It stands over six feet high and is elaborately hand carved. The metal balconies that were on the front of the building were acquired by Robert Noll. He says he does not know what he will do with them but they were available at the right price.

We have a large selection of cocktail dresses and formals for the New Year's Eve Party.--Masons, 10 South Main
