FCE Fall Follies Wednesday
Friday, November 9, 2007
The Family and Community Education (FCE) Council and the Bourbon County Extension office will sponsor the annual Fall Follies at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday starting in Tom Armstrong Hall, Community Christian Church, 1919 S. Horton, Fort Scott. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. There is no cost to attend and no pre-registration is needed.
The day starts with refreshments and fellowship at 9:30 a.m.
At 10 a.m. Nancy Schuster, Anderson County Extension agent, will present "Grandma, What Did You Do During the War?" The program includes profiles of women and their roles in World War II and a quilt made from Kansas City Star quilt patterns. Each quilt block features a five pointed star, symbolic of the blue stars placed in windows when a family member left for service. The program will be a nostalgic look at the strength and perseverance of women of the era.
"Lighten up the Holidays" will be presented at 11a.m. by Ann Ludlum, Bourbon County Extension agent. Participants will learn some ways to modify recipes to lower calories and fat without sacrificing flavor. There will be some lighter versions of holiday favorite recipes to taste. Tips for healthier holiday eating will be shared.
Those attending are invited to bring a covered dish and tableware and share a potluck luncheon at noon.
For those unable to attend during the daytime, highlights of both programs will be given at Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5:15-6 p.m at the Shirley Yeager Memorial Building on the fairgrounds. Handouts from the programs will be available.
For more information, contact Ann Ludlum, Bourbon County Extension Agent, at (620) 223-3720.
