Chet Hume
Chet Hume, 77, of Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Christian Health Care, in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 5, 1930, in Tunas, Mo., to Herbert Hiram Hume and Alma Lee Piper Hume. On May 18, 1954, he and Barbara Lee Pike were married in Nevada, and she survives of the home.
Chet was born and raised in the Tunas area. He lived and worked in the Kansas City, Mo., area for a number of years. Chet came to Nevada in 1952. He worked as an electrician at Nevada State Hospital for 23 years until, his retirement in 1994. He was the original owner and builder of Nevada Speedway in 1963, which he sold after four years. Following his retirement from the speedway, he did automobile mechanic work out of his home. He was Past Exalted Ruler of BPOE No. 564 in Nevada, and a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife Barbara, survivors include three sons; Herbert Lee Hume and his wife Linda, Kansas City, Mo.; Michael Dale Hume and his wife Janetta, Gardner, Kan.; and Donald Lee Hume, Nevada; one daughter, Janetta Thompson, Dousman, Wis; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Georgia Jackson, Olathe, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
