After Regent Mary Ann French called the meeting to order and members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, she read the president's general message, "Constitution Mandate in Schools," from National.

Nolene Whiteside read the national defense report. Attendance was taken, showing five members present. Nolene Whiteside then gave the treasurer's report.

Once preliminaries were completed, members discussed old business.

Bells Across America spot announcements were read for the Constitution Week observance. The Old Congregational Church bell was rung at 3 p.m. Sept. 17, and KMDO Channel 3 announced the observance of Constitution Week from Sept. 17-23 with the Preamble to the Constitution read in remembrance.

Correspondence was an invitation to Four Winds Chapter as guests April 12, 2008.

Bernita Hill gave the program, which was about the Constitution. She said James Madison was the father of the Constitution, and George Washington was the first president. Twelve states attended the meeting about the Constitution, and three-quarters of slaves would be counted in the population. Benjamin Franklin made a speech.

The structure of the document has not changed since it was written. there were 55 delegates to the convention, and the Constitution was drafted in 1787.

The meeting was conducted in the Daughter of the American Revolution Room in Memorial Hall, Third and National Avenue, with Avis Stradley as hostess.

The meeting was adjourned with the Daughters' Pledge.
