CHERRYVALE -- The little things hurt Uniontown's volleyball team again, according to head coach Jackie Hall, and the Eagles put up a 1-3 mark at the Cherryvale Invitational here Saturday.

The Eagles lost their first match to Independence, 25-19, 25-21. Abbie Smith served for 10 points.

Uniontown defeated Howard-West Elk in the next match, 25-23, 25-15. Riley Stephens served for eight points.

Pittsburg Colgan swept Uniontown, 25-13, 25-15, in the third match. Juliea Decker served four points for the Eagles.

In the final match of the day, Neodesha, which has received some votes in the Kansas Volleyball Association poll, swept Uniontown, 25-23, 25-11. Stephens and Rayma Ridge served for four points each.

"Again, it was the little things that seemed to cause problems for us," Hall said. "We really struggled in the passing department and a lot of that is based upon us not communicating with each other on the floor.

"We've adjusted our offense to where Kennda Phillips is serving as our one setter and she did a great job for us throughout the day. Our decision making at times is not always the best, so that is something we are continuing to improve upon."

The Eagles, 1-3 in the Three Rivers League and 9-10 overall, travel to Chetopa tonight for a league triangular that also includes Marmaton Valley. Junior varsity matches begin at 5 p.m. with varsity action slated to begin at 6.
