Tiger golfers have tough day in Joplin

JOPLIN -- Fort Scott High School's golf team experienced a high Tuesday with a good finish at the Marmaton Valley Tournament in Moran. Unfortunately, they experienced a low here Thursday at the make-up of the Galena Invitational, finishing fifth as a team with a score of 263 over nine holes, 25 strokes off their pace on Tuesday.

"So goes the game of golf," Fort Scott head coach Karen Curran said. "One day you're up and the next day you're down. That pretty much sums up yesterday. The girls were really disappointed in how they played and scored. They were coming off a great showing at Moran and then really struggled with the course at Joplin.

"Joplin's course is a little longer and had a few more elements of difficulty that they hadn't experienced before. But they are looking ahead to playing at home on Tuesday and redeeming themselves."

Cassie Ogran was Fort Scott's only medalists, tying for 10th with Sasha Frost of Pittsburg as each shot 58. Margret Adams of Joplin McAuley won the individual title with a 42.

Kacie Brown had the Tigers' next-best score with a 66. Jessica Henry shot a season-best 67 and Dana Ballou shot a personal-nest 72 in her first varsity appearance.

Morgan Morasch shot 81 for the Tigers and Katie Bristley scored an 82.

Fort Scott hosts its own Fort Scott Invitational Tuesday at the Fort Scott Country Club. The tournament, which was stopped by rain on its original Sept. 4 date, will start over again at 3 p.m.
