FCE enjoys history reenactment
The Starlite Family and Community Education (FCE) Club met Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007. After prayer, led by Betty Johnson, 14 members and eight guests enjoyed cooling refreshments served by Sandra Haimerl, Jan Patterson and Estalee Simpson. One of our guests, Helen Long -- a sister of member Clarice Russell, presented a very interesting program on Living History. Helen portrayed the character of Sacajawea, a Shoshoni Indian lady who helped Lewis and Clark make their way across Western America to the Pacific Ocean. They reached this destination in Oregon on Nov. 17, 1805. Sacajawea and her husband served as interpreters while traveling through Indian territory, as well as guides for the expedition.
The business session was opened with the flag salute and the club collect. The minutes of the June meeting were read because there wasn't a meeting in July due to the county fair. Roll call was answered by each naming a favorite person (or group) in American History. The treasurer's report was given. Lots of correspondence was shared.
There were 161 volunteer hours reported. There were no committee reports. Cleo Frederick had thanked our FCE for her "company meal" by giving a donation to the club. A committee, composed of Estalee Simpson and Sandra Haimerl, was formed to identify a local project the club could participate in, in lieu of the normal Christmas gift exchange.
