Four Season garden club meets to discuss funds
Twenty seven members and guests, including a contingent from the Four Seasons Garden Club in Nevada, met at the home of Dean and Becky Maim on July 24. Club member, Martha Scott, gave an interesting and informative presentation about growing herbs in the garden and using them in the kitchen. She had samples of a large number of herbs from her garden for the audience to view. Martha and Becky provided refreshments containing herbs to the group. This illustrated how herbs can be used to enhance the flavor of desserts as well as entrees.
After the presentation, Club president, Judy Orton, called the meeting to order. The secretary read a thank you note from Tri Valley for the club's contribution toward the greenhouse project, along with the minutes of the previous meeting. The treasurer's report was also given.
The 2007 Secret Garden Tour was briefly discussed and it was noted that the next tour will be in 2009. Other fund raising ideas were discussed. Members of the group from Nevada said that they hold a plant sale in conjunction with their town's city wide garage sale.
There were several comments about the benefits of the air conditioning in the Myers Building on the Fair Ground. The club voted to contribute $100 to help defray the cost of the air conditioning equipment. The club also voted to allocate $100 for the purchase of plants to be used in the Heritage Park planters that are located east of the public rest rooms in honor of the late Beverly Lyons.
The next meeting will be on Aug. 21. It will be held at Heritage Park the group will evaluate this year's plant selection and begin making plans for the 2008 planting season. Anyone interested in attending should call either Judy Orton or Dale Johnson.
