(1907)

A special received today by The Tribune indicates that the bandits, who on April 14 blew up the Redfield Bank, have been captured at Bolivar, Mo. There are four in the party. A complete confession has been obtained from one of the quartet. They will be returned here and tried for the crime. The public had almost forgotten the Redfield robbery though it was one of the most atrocious ever perpetrated in the state. The robbers blew open the safe, though they did not get any money to speak of. Before leaving they broke into Bolinger's Hardware store and stole several guns and revolvers. They also visited Glover Livery Barn where they stole a horse and buggy. The rig was later found near Hiattville where it had been left by the fleeing criminals.

Letter to the Editor:

Because of recession, unemployment and increasing costs to a family, the vital utilities (along with related deposits) have escalated beyond reach of the average family. Most people are aware of the high gas bills the past year. But are you aware that if you move, the security deposit for the Gas Service is the average month's bill times two for the location For example: an average month's bill of $75 would make your deposit $150. Along with this would be your deposits for water, electricity, rental deposit and rent bring the grand total somewhere around $450 just to relocate here. This does not cover incidentals in moving. I feel this is an insult and a terrible injustice to the citizens of Fort Scott, especially since this is a low income area. In closing may I say that I am grateful that the other services have not chosen to base their deposits in this way. -- Forestine Hoover, Fort Scott
