OLIVE LAVAUGHN RUBLE

Olive LaVaughn Ruble, 82, of Hiawatha, formerly of Topeka, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007.

Olive was born October 14, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of RObert O. and Elna Josephine Erickson Dean. She graduated from Fort Scott High School.

Following graduation, she married Virgil E. Ruble May 16, 1946 in Mound City, Kan. They spent their first year living in Hammond, Kan. She gave birth to her only son Darrell Dean Ruble on March 2, 1947.

Shortly thereafter, she became an Army wife and the three of them moved to Fort Riley, where Olive gave birth to her only daughter, Connie Jo Ruble Tollefson on November 1, 1948.

She had a wonderful life traveling the world with her family for 22 years, moving from Kansas to Kentucky to Germany, to Montana, to California, back to Kansas, to Arizona, to Hawaii, back to California, and retiring from the military in Colorado. They moved to Topeka in 1972 where she resided until moving to Hiawatha in 2004.

Olive was a member of Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995. Survivors include her children, Darrell and his wife Ann, Connie and her husband, Keith, her step-sister, Aleta Fern Land, her sister-in-laws, Mildred Daly and Dorothy Lea Bloomfield, five grandchildren, Jill Aldridge, Alice Ruble, Amy Wilder, Jason Tollefson and Matt Ruble, and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by family and friends and was loved by everyone she touched.

Olive will lie in state after noon Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Hammond, Kan.
