Pleasanton finishes with one medal
WICHITA -- Pleasanton was unable to add another medal to its total on the final day of the Kansas State Track and Field Championships at Cessna Stadium here Saturday and returned home this season with one medal.
That medal was won by junior Megan Allen on Friday when she took seventh in Class 2A long jump with a mark of 33 feet, 5 1/2 inches.
The Blu-Jays had three chances to score medals Saturday but the best they were able to get was a pair of 11th-place finishes. Allen was 11th in Saturday's 100-meter dash preliminaries in 13.34 seconds and was unable to advance to the finals later that morning, won by Mary Jo Mott of St. Marys in 12.85 seconds. Whitney Taylor, who had the best time in the prelims of 12.50 seconds, was second in the finals in 13.03.
Junior Danny McCullough tied for 11th in pole vault with Derrick Snodgrass of Jetmore and Andy Arnold of Stanton County as all three had a best of 11 feet, 6 inches. Since there wasn't a medal at stake, the tie was not broken.
Seniors Taylor Musil of Frankfort and Brian Keller of Ellis both cleared 13 feet but Musil was awarded the Class 2A title as he cleared the bar in fewer attempts.
Finally, junior Chris Duggins was 15th in discus with a mark of 112 feet even recorded on his first throw of the preliminaries. Senior Cole Erbert was the class of the field, going 167 feet even to win the competition by almost 15 feet over senior Clint Kuhns of Meade.
