Leon Peel, age 84, of Fort Scott, died Thursday evening, March 1, 2007, at the Mercy Health Center. He was born On January 9, 1923, in Springfield, Illinois the son of John Algon and Esther Mae Page Peel. He married Maxine Ater on November 2, 1942 in Uniontown, Kansas, she precede him in death on August 25, 2006.

Leon worked for Key Industries as a Cutter for 34 years retiring in 1985. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Hiattville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son, Larry and wife, Beverly Peel of Fort Scott, three daughters, Joyce and husband, Danny Metcalf of Fort Scott, Margie and husband, Ray Bukaty of Grain Valley, Mo., and Susan and husband, Randy Percy of Pittsburg, Ks., 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maxine and 2 sisters, Margaret Tyson and Dorothy Geier.

Pastor Dallas Peterson will conduct funeral services for Leon Peel at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 5, 2007, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until funeral time at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hiattville Cemetery following the service.
