Storm alters Willard schedule; wrestling postponed
WILLARD, Mo. -- Although Fort Scott High's basketball teams were already here, the winter storm passing through the four-state region made it difficult for the two Arkansas schools to get here Thursday, resulting in the postponement of the first day of the annual Tri-State Classic.
Fort Scott's teams were to play Shiloh Christian of Springdale, Ark. on the first day of play while host Willard was set to take on Greenwood, Ark. Instead, those games will be played tonight. Fort Scott's teams will play at 4 (boys) and 5:30 (girls).
Friday's originally scheduled games with Willard will be played Saturday. The girls will play Willard at 9:15 a.m. with the boys to follow at 10:45. Then Fort Scott's girls will play Greenwood at noon followed by the boys at 1:30.
The weather also postponed the first games of the season for Fort Scott's freshmen boys' team, which was to have opened at the Webb City (Mo.) Tournament against Neosho, Mo. As of 9:30 a.m. this morning, the entire tournament had been cancelled, according to FSHS principal Bob Beckham.
Beckham also sent a later e-mail stating that the Fort Scott High School Dual Wrestling Tournament, scheduled for Saturday at the FSHS gymnasium, will not be held. Jayhawk-Linn was also sending a team to the tournament.
No make-up date for the wrestling tournament has been announced.
Those planning to travel to see Fort Scott Community College in the Heart of Texas Bowl Saturday are encouraged to be careful. Roads are reported to be hazardous all the way down to the Oklahoma-Texas state line.
The Heart of Texas Bowl kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday.
