IRENE RUTH KARLESKINT UMLAUF
Irene Ruth Karleskint Umlauf, age 65, a former resident of Fort Scott, more recently of Wichita, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, one day after her 65th birthday.
She was born September 4, 1941, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Frederick J. Karleskint and Caroline Marie Reiter Karleskint. She attended her first three years of high school at St. Francis Academy in Nevada, Missouri. She completed her senior year at Fort Scott High School and graduated in 1959.
She married Leonard "Jerry" Umlauf on May 13, 1961, at the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Fort Scott. While living in Fort Scott, she had worked at both Citizens Bank and Montgomery Ward. She was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Calvary Pentecostal Church of Wichita.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry, of the home in Wichita; three daughters, Patti Glenn, Julie Weaver and Jeanie Umlauf, all of Wichita; and a granddaughter, Alyssa Weaver. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill Karleskint, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Tom Karleskint, Fort Scott; and nine sisters, Rita Godwin and Betty Young, both of Durham, North Carolina, Esther DeLange, Marjorie Cook, Joan Greenfield, and Rosalie Martin, all of Fort Scott, Carol Karleskint and Patricia Hobbs, both of Wichita, and Alice Murray, of Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Leo "Jim" Karleskint.
Services were held on Friday, Sept. 8 at the Calvary Pentecostal Church in Wichita. Burial was in Kechi, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
