USD 235 in Uniontown is projected to have a slight increase in its mill levy for the 2024-25 school year. Because of safety concerns with the building, the Fort Scott City Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to move forward with repairs to the facade of Memorial Hall. Frank A. Burchett, age 92, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at his home. Arrangements for Frank Burchett will be announced by the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.

Betty J. Secrest, age 91 formerly of Pleasanton, Kan., passed away in Olathe, Kan., on Aug. 5, 2024.   A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 at the Pleasanton Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial contributions to Paws & Claws of Fort Scott or Presbyterian Manors of Mid America (PMMA), and may be sent in care of the funeral home to Schneider Funeral Home P.O.
