City crews repaired a broken pipe at the river intake system by early Friday afternoon, but water customers were asked to conserve water as water levels were restored. “Due to a broken pipe at the river intake system, the City of Fort Scott is experiencing low water,” the city announced on its Facebook page about noon Friday. “During this time, please conserve as much as possible. The leak will be repaired shortly, but it will take several hours to get back to full water levels.”...

Donald Gene Richey, 86, of Fort Scott, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2024, at Medicalodges of Fort Scott. Arrangements are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home and will be announced next week.

Dan Rhodes, 73, of Blue Mound, Kan., died on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024 at his home.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at Blue Mound Bible Church, Blue Mound, Kan. Allen Schellack, founder and director of Fort Scott Compassionate Ministries, recently announced his decision to retire, after serving in this capacity for 11 years. His multiple contributions to this community have spanned decades, and include his organization being the designated Salvation Army Disaster Relief and Services Extension Unit for Bourbon County. This has provided a multitude of services through generous donations during the holiday bell ringing efforts of volunteers...
